Humanity’s fascination for ruling the world surpasses that inconveniently lingering music from the one and only Tears For Fears song. Going beyond that New Wave, synth pop, joke of a song takes us to the ancient world–where bloodbath is synonymous with having a toast for breakfast. If you understand what I’m building up here.
This week, because of our genetic carnal needs to take over something, Dappsify picks CryptoRome for its new segment called “Game of the Week.” One may lead to asking: what the hell is CyptoRome and why does it make me more curious?
CryptoRome is a game developed by GigLabs–the same guys that gave us the glorious dapp sharing platform called GigApps. The Roman-inspired game interphase uses the revolutionary and highly composable ERC-998 tokens for their so-called “Lands.” Lands are required to train troops and harness resources for conquering virtual Europe.
Sounds too dark for you? Well, not exactly.
You see, all of this mumbo-jumbo happens in front of your computer, and even better, on your mobile or tablet with just a click of a button. Fueling your dire needs of world domination. And slaughter. But enough of the dictator talk.
What is the basic premise of CryptoRome?
Basically, entering CryptoRome enables the player to penetrate war and allocate troops toppling over the previous owner of a specific Land Card. The goal here is to collate enough number of land in the rest of Europe (Land points) to be hailed as Caesar or Senator at the end of the day.
What does being Caesar or Senator imply?
In line with what happened in history, Caesar and the Senators earn via taxes. These taxes are collected at the end of the day by the champion Caesar and his subordinate senators on every Battle Region.
One may ask, where do these taxes come from?
Well, the Caesar earns 1% of all resource transactions that happened during the whole 24 hour period during his reign. Senators, on the other hand, get an equal share of the 1% of all resource transactions allocated to them.
All in all, 2% of all payments occurring in the 24-hour regime gets transferred to these winners. Ethereum is transferred directly to the player’s ETH wallet.
Now that you have a clear vision on how to earn in CryptoRome, the next question would be:
How to get started
Here are the steps in the signing-up process:
- Claim a plot.
- Place a barracks on it.
- Simulate an attack in Sicily.
It is important to remember that creating a new account is FREE which also entitles the player to a plot and several troops to get started. There are also a few things you can do with your free plot which are as follows.
- Grow grapes in a vineyard
- Continue to battle in Sicily.
The in-game currency is called “denari” which can be used in upgrading the barracks and trading resources. It is also the thing that players are fighting for in their quest to be Senators and Caesar.
The land is the basis of all these commotions existing in CryptoRome. On start-up, the player is awarded a free piece of Plot. These plots CANNOT be combined into larger land types but is a good initial platform for producing troops and resources. Plot owners can also buy and sell supplies from other citizens in CryptoRome.
Villages are the basic building blocks of a town. These are the lowest forms of land types that can be refurbished or recombined to develop larger land types in the game. These produce more soldiers and resources than plots.
Combining three villages produces one town. A town can also be broken down into three to produce individual villages. Though separated villages can stand on its own, there is an added bonus if they are summed up in a town.
Cities are composed of three towns. It is also irreversible like the town which can be broken or combined vice versa. Cities produce three times more resources than a town and also has an additional bonus factor (more soldiers).
Battle for supremacy
As mentioned earlier, Caesars and Senators are determined by the most number of points. Points are earned by winning over blocks of land called Land Cards. The Caesar is the user who had amassed the most points after a 24-hour period. Once hailed Caesar, the player cannot be a Senator because come on, that’s just pure greed.
The fight for Senator partakes in four battle regions namely Red, Blue, Green, and Black. Each region is divided into two based on their “point system.” The first four battles display 15 odd numbered Land Cards while the last remaining half exhibits 15 even numbered ones. These Land Cards range up to 30 points. Furthermore, there are eight battle regions in total.
Like any other RPG game, CryptoRome is divided into levels of expertise. Newcomers or noobs can enter the Entry Arena, succeeded by the Middle and Elite Arenas. Here are the requirements for each arena:
Entry – needs at least 1 troop (100 is awarded during sign-up)
Middle – requires a 600 troop capacity
Elite – requires 1800 troop capacity
Rewards for each arena are as follows:
Entry – Caesar = 20 denari; Senator = 10 denari
Middle – Caesar = 30 denari; Senator = 15 denari
Elite – Caesar = 1 centurion; Senator = 20 denari
Fighting over land might be tricky at first but once the player had the general idea on how to strategize the next move, earning ETH would be easy as pie. First off, let us have a run through of all essential details involved in Battle Day.
Land cards are a set of square digital displays that exhibit the number of points (or in-game it is called Laurel Wreath and Caesar Trophy) required for each player to be hailed as either Caesar or Senator at the end of the day.
The pinnacle move to topple over an existing player owning a piece of a land block is to send the highest amount of troops. Each battle region has a three-hour period before declaring the champion of that particular event. The player who has the most forces on a specific Land Card will be the winner, and the points will be summarized at the end of 24 hours.
Troops are illustrated by a sword on the hovering sidebar next to the time remaining.
The points a user acquires during battle is displayed at the hovering sidebar in the battle dashboard. The Laurel Wreath indicates the points you are winning in a specific region. The color of the Wreath pinpoints the type of region (Red, Green, Blue, or Black).
The Caesar Trophy sums up all the trophies won in every region during the battle day. Being Caesar all boils down to this.
Improving the battle strategy
Here is where it gets sticky.
CryptoRome uses several items and tricks which adds a little kick when users engage in battle. Most of them require ETH or denari. Here are some of them:
Wine – protects the troops in a certain Land Card by hiding the number of High Troops
Scout – reveals the actual amount of troops that had used the Wine option and the type of Wall
Wall – adds defense to the occupied land card
Centurions – adds Troop strength to a particular card
So why did we choose CryptoRome as Game of the Week?
Key points of the game:
- Quick battle time – The game has 8 battles which replenish every 3 hours which means more action-packed troop relay within the said time period. It’s not too short for strategizing but not too long to wait for the result. A high efficient battle ratio for some.
- Convenient page interphase – The buttons and icons are large enough to be noticed and understood. When entering battle, a hovering sidebar containing details of the battle follows you around while scrolling up or down. Oh, and by the way, they also utilize ridiculously huge fonts which are a plus.
- Signing up is free – Signing up requires zero Ethereum with an additional plot of land and troops to get started.
- Low cost, high return scenario – Investing in low-cost items like vines/grapes or wine can have a significant impact on gameplay
- User-friendly Leaderboard tab – The game contains a log file of all the previous battles starting from its launch date so that users can strategize more on who to topple the most (on the Leaderboard page).
- Revolutionary Crypto token – It uses ERC998 tokens which defies the boundaries of using non-fungible tokens and regulates the limitless attribute of ERC721’s.
- Highly addictive and profitable if you have built enough troops!
